Today we want to pay tribute to the Festival’s long history focusing on what was the 1974 edition of the Molins Horror Film Festival, which at that time consisted of a 16 hours of horror that lately became the famous 12 hours horror marathon still running nowadays.
We want to remember in this occasion the second edition of our MolinsHorror in a travel through time that will bring nice memories to some of you.
From a general view of 1974 we can point out that for exemple it was the year in which Earth human population reached the 4 bilions. It was also the year when the french acrobat Philippe Petit walked between the Twin Towers on a rope in an achievement recently brought to the cinemas. Also in 1974 the boxer Muhammed Ali got back the heavy weight boxing world title from George Foreman, the movie “The GOdfather II” has a great success on the Oscars and the italian cinema director Vittorio de Sica died.
At a local level in 1974 Felipe González was elected as Secretario General of the PSOE and Spain requested to the Interpol the detention of the murderers of admiral Carrero Blanco. In that year died in Molins de Rei the politic activist Catarina Casas and on that same summer the Assamblea Democràtica de Molins de Rei was created.
Going into the world of horror, it was on 1974 that Ronald DeFeo murdered all his family members in Amityville (New York) giving origin to one of the most famous horror movie sagas. Also that year the classic “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” by Tobe Hooper was premiered and The Exorcist bashed its opponentsen on the Golden Globes winning the awards of Best Drama, Best Director for William Friedkin and Best Script for Peter Blatty.

That edition of the Molins Horror Film Festival was held the 7th of July 1974 at 9 p.m. at Sala Joventut in collaboration with the Cine Club Molins de Rei. Of course there was blood made of tamato sauce, women with light clothes cheering up the audience, scrfeams, clapping and frighting moments in a crowded cinema room.
Nine films were screened with two breaks of twenty minutes each in a marathon session that started around 9 p.m. the end up at 12 a.m. of the next day with a final surprise screening of a tenth movie. For the price of the ticket, 200 pessetas of that time, the organization offered two coffes and a sandwich.
The screened movie were “Dracula Has Risen from the Grave”, “Psycho”, “Blood on Satan’s Claw”, “Jonathan”, “Horror Express”, “Blind Terror”, “Asylum” and “Black Sunday”. And at the end the surprise movie, which was “Cuadecuc, vampir” by Pere Portabella.
