HANEKE OR THE EDGE OF HORROR
Last year the Festival was devoted to mutations, after having dealt with phobias in 2015. This year our leitmotiv is “Haneke or the edge of horror”, with the clear intention of exploring the limits of a genre that year after year widens and reshapes its rules.
“We must thank Michael Haneke for his insane capacity of reinventing the horror genre, of trespassing the boundaries of morality, of exploring the darkest geographies that our helpless and sickly society creates, by means of an approach that combines extreme quality cinema with the deepest reflections on the unbalanced and hideous behaviour of human beings. This year, the French-Austrian director of the two versions of “Funny Games”, “Benny’s video”, “Caché” or “Amour” is celebrating his 75th birthday, an event that the Molins Horror Festival could not leave behind. More than ever, we will be asking ourselves about the limits of horror and where everyday life can end up when strain shelters in human souls. Welcome to Michael Haneke’s irresistible and deranged world. Albert Galera (Festival Arts Director).
The Festival is going to start out next November 10th with the world premiere of the film Framed, a Spanish film directed by Marc Martínez Jordán and starred by Alex Manury, Claudia Pons, Joe Manjón, Daniel Horvath, Julia Molins and Pep Sais.
The whole team of the film are going to be present in the event along with producer Marc Carreté.
Synopsis: Framed is a strange website born out in the deepest corners of the internet for only 24 hours. Users will be allowed to stream live through their mobile phones, and be followed by millions of internet users from all over the world. A big amount of money is at stake for those who can get the biggest audience over these 24 hours with no limits or censure.

It could be no other way, the Festival will screen cult film Funny Games (1997), a clear example of how horror can be dealt with from a diversity of perspectives. The filmography of the Austrian director is an unending progression through the most provoking, distressing and disturbing cinema. Additionally, we will be offering some other interesting titles of his work which will please Haneke’s fans. These films will let us know the relevance of one of the reference directors of the last times.
Arno Frisch: born in Vienna, this actor is the protagonist of the awarded Benny’s Video (1992) by Michel Haneke. In 1997 he worked with Haneke again in the cult film Funny Games. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Berlin where, besides acting in films, he worked as a musician, composer and director assistant in several operas along with great artists. Lately, we have been able to see him in the film Life Guidance, screened in the latest Venice festival.
Roser Amills: Journalist and writer from Mallorca. She has lived in Barcelona since she was seventeen. Among her books, which very often develop along sex story lines, we want to mention Paraules d’amor, confessions apassionades (2011, amb el seu company Victor Amela), Les 1.001 fantasies més eròtiques, El ecuador de Ulises (2015) and La bachillera (2016).
Pep Prieto: He was born in Girona in 1976. He works in both printed press and radio and TV. He writes articles and reviews on cinema and series in Diari de Girona, La Llança and the Time Out magazine. We can also listen to him as a cinema reviewer on the RAC1 radio station, and in the TV programme Àrtic on the BTV channel.
Ángel Agudo: screenplay writer who studied at ECAM (Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid), co-writer in Sweet Home (2011-2017), a film produced by Filmax as well as in Los prescindibles (2012-2013). He has also directed and written the script for the film El hombre que vio llorar a Frankenstein (2010).
Miguel Ángel Vivas: Film director educated at Universidad Europea de Madrid and ECAM. Some of his feature films, are Reflejos (2001), Secuestrados (2010), which won the Best Director award at Austin Fantastic, Extinction (2015) and Inside (2016). Lately he has directed several episodes of the successful TV series La Casa de Papel.

ESCAC CINEMA CLASSROOM SESSION
After last year’s success, this year we are carrying out a new session of short films for middle and upper secondary students.
The lecture on Cinema Professions, given by a teacher from ESCAC, aims at improving the audience’s cinema taste as well as showing them the creative process of a film. It will offer a general vision of the different professionals intervening in the making of a film.
This activity will be held on Thursday, November 16th, in a double session (10-12hrs |12-14hrs) at Teatre de la Peni de Molins de Rei. The activity will be free for a limited amount of students.

The session will have two parts, one aimed at 6-9 year old children, and a second one aimed at 10-12 year old children.
CHILDREN’S WORKSHOP: YOUR FIRST HORROR SCENE
In our intention of bringing cinema to the youngest audiences, along with the public library Biblioteca Pau Vila of Molins de Rei and Kineina Audiovisuals, this year we introduce a new workshop aimed at 9 year old (and up) children called Your first horror scene.
In this workshop, participants will shoot their own film scene using elements of classical horror cinema such as waving camera movements, light effects, sounds of nature like rain or thunder as well as a few blood drops. Participants themselves will make these elements and will be lent all the necessary tools for their creations.
MOLINS HORROR GAMES
The Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival will be offering for the first time a gaming day devoted to table and cardboard horror and mystery games that will be called Molins Horror Games. This activity is sponsored by the online shop Mathom.

Story telling games will include you as part of their plots just like cinema does. Moreover, no previous experience is required.
Additionally, we will host a lecture connecting cinema with table and carboard games.
For the second time, in partnership with the company Cuenta Atrás, we will host a massive escape room. On this occasion, participants will try to escape from a story set in Haneke’s horror universe.

It is a choral essay, coordinated by Albert Galera with a foreword by cinema reviewer Carlos Losilla. The work studies in detail Haneke’s filmography and career paying a special attention to his discomforting and terrifying side. The book explores the edge of horror through an essential director who is a key reference in the understanding of human behaviour and the sparks bringing on everyday life horror.
The book includes contributions by members of the Festival staff such as Albert Galera himself along with Jaume Claver. Other authors are Gerard Fossas, Joan Domènech, Txema Luzán and Javier Rueda.
20 SECOND HORROR VIDEO CONTEST
