Last year the Festival was devoted to mutations, after having dealt with phobias in 2015. This year our leitmotiv is “Haneke or the edge of horror”, with the clear intention of exploring the limits of a genre that year after year widens and reshapes its rules.

“We must thank Michael Haneke for his insane capacity of reinventing the horror genre, of trespassing the boundaries of morality, of exploring the darkest geographies that our helpless and sickly society creates, by means of an approach that combines extreme quality cinema with the deepest reflections on the unbalanced and hideous behaviour of human beings. This year, the French-Austrian director of the two versions of “Funny Games”, “Benny’s video”, “Caché” or “Amour” is celebrating his 75th birthday, an event that the Molins Horror Festival could not leave behind. More than ever, we will be asking ourselves about the limits of horror and where everyday life can end up when strain shelters in human souls. Welcome to Michael Haneke’s irresistible and deranged world. Albert Galera (Festival Arts Director).

The Festival is going to start out next November 10th with the world premiere of the film Framed, a Spanish film directed by Marc Martínez Jordán and starred by Alex Manury, Claudia Pons, Joe Manjón, Daniel Horvath, Julia Molins and Pep Sais.

The filmography of the Austrian director is an unending progression through the most provoking, distressing and disturbing cinema. Additionally, we will be offering some other interesting titles of his work which will please Haneke’s fans. These films will let us know the relevance of one of the reference directors of the last times.

Fiesta de presentación del Terrormolins 2017
Arno Frisch: born in Vienna, this actor is the protagonist of the awarded Benny’s Video (1992) by Michel Haneke. In 1997 he worked with Haneke again in the cult film Funny Games. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Berlin where, besides acting in films, he worked as a musician, composer and director assistant in several operas along with great artists. Lately, we have been able to see him in the film Life Guidance, screened in the latest Venice festival.
Roser Amills: Journalist and writer from Mallorca. She has lived in Barcelona since she was seventeen. Among her books, which very often develop along sex story lines, we want to mention Paraules d’amor, confessions apassionades (2011, amb el seu company Victor Amela), Les 1.001 fantasies més eròtiques, El ecuador de Ulises (2015) and La bachillera (2016).
Pep Prieto: He was born in Girona in 1976. He works in both printed press and radio and TV. Lately he has directed several episodes of the successful TV series La Casa de Papel.

One of the latest news for this edition of the Festival is that we are using our new additional event hall for the first time: Sala Gòtica.
This is a historical and multiple use place that will host additional screenings of films, non-competition short films and retrospective film sessions. It will host further activities such as the first edition of Molins Horror Games. This is a new challenge for the Festival, and a new reference for the audience which is closer to the town centre where you can have free access to film screenings.

This year we are glad to announce that Festival tickets and ticket packs will be sold through the Codetickets platform, a reference website of show ticket selling in our country.
On september 16th you will be able to buy the Festival’s ticket packs and festival passes, later on, we will announce our offer of single tickets too.

The Festival will host a new Networking that will be a meeting point between emerging film directors and the industry. All directors with a project in progress are invited to present it at the Festival. You can also be part of the audience to enjoy the pitch and the workshops.
The Networking will be held on Thursday, November 16th at 12:00 pm. At the Federació Obrera de Molins de Rei. It will consist in 3 interesting workshops for selected film directors. They will also have the chance to present their projects in the pitching session.
The workshops given away by industry professionals will be:
1. Festival inscription and distribution strategies. Festival programming criteria.
2. Economy directions for your project. How to make a budget and a financing plan.
3. How to be good at pitching.

The Festival wants to announce two new partners for this year’s edition:
Movistar+: leading TV platform devoted to cinema and television broadcasting. They will collaborate with the festival in different events that will soon be announced.
DARK: It’s the only Spanish TV channel completely devoted to horror cinema.

After last year’s success, this year we are carrying out a new session of short films for middle and upper secondary students.
The lecture on Cinema Professions, given by a teacher from ESCAC, aims at improving the audience’s cinema taste as well as showing them the creative process of a film. It will offer a general vision of the different professionals intervening in the making of a film.
This activity will be held on Thursday, November 16th, in a double session (10-12hrs |12-14hrs) at Teatre de la Peni de Molins de Rei. The activity will be free for a limited amount of students.

We wanted to do it again: our children’s short films session will be a charity session, this year it will raise funds for the AFANOC association (Catalan Relatives and Friends of Oncologic Children Association) which works in support of children with cancer and their families.
The session will have two parts, one aimed at 6-9 year old children, and a second one aimed at 10-12 year old children.

In our intention of bringing cinema to the youngest audiences, along with the public library Biblioteca Pau Vila of Molins de Rei and Kineina Audiovisuals, this year we introduce a new workshop aimed at 9 year old (and up) children called Your first horror scene.
In this workshop, participants will shoot their own film scene using elements of classical horror cinema such as waving camera movements, light effects, sounds of nature like rain or thunder as well as a few blood drops. Participants themselves will make these elements and will be lent all the necessary tools for their creations.

The Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival will be offering for the first time a gaming day devoted to table and cardboard horror and mystery games that will be called Molins Horror Games. This activity is sponsored by the online shop Mathom.
Moreover, a selection of Spanish publishers will be present with their terrific catalogues. Do not be afraid to come because everybody will find a game with a great theme sense. Story telling games will include you as part of their plots just like cinema does. Moreover, no previous experience is required.
Additionally, we will host a lecture connecting cinema with table and carboard games.

For the second time, in partnership with the company Cuenta Atrás, we will host a massive escape room. On this occasion, participants will try to escape from a story set in Haneke’s horror universe.
This will take part on Friday, November 17th, at 19:00-21:00.

We announce that, for the second time, the Festival, in partnership with Hermenaute Editors, will present a new book: Michael Haneke: La estética del dolor.
It is a choral essay, coordinated by Albert Galera with a foreword by cinema reviewer Carlos Losilla. The work studies in detail Haneke’s filmography and career paying a special attention to his discomforting and terrifying side. The book explores the edge of horror through an essential director who is a key reference in the understanding of human behaviour and the sparks bringing on everyday life horror.

The book includes contributions by members of the Festival staff such as Albert Galera himself along with Jaume Claver. Other authors are Gerard Fossas, Joan Domènech, Txema Luzán and Javier Rueda.

For the third time, we will have our contest of 20 second horror videos. This year, the contest is sponsored by Movistar+, which will give a better effect and an opportunity for participants to show their works on the TV. Next November 6th we will announce the nominees for the award. The winning work will be announced during the Festival.

The contest, called by the public library Biblioteca Pau Vila, is in its 11th editon. The verdict will be published on Friday, November 17th, at the Teatre de la Peni during the Festival’s closing event.
Additionally, this year’s edition includes a High School Special Price, aimed at upper secondary school students.

The fourth edition of Gastroterror has bars, restaurants and confectioners from the Molins de Rei area to work together in connecting cinema and gastronomy in the most original and surprising ways.
The event will be held from November 3rd to November 19th and we will be able to taste exclusive food compositions inspired in horror cinema.
Very soon we will announce the collaborators involved as well as a picture of the terrific compositions they have designed for the Gastroterror.

For the second time, we have a partnership with RENFE with special prices for those who want to come to the festival by train transport.

On Wednesday, October 25th, the FNAC-Triangle will host the public presentation of the latest news on the Festival along with a screening of the best of last edition’s short films.
