Patrick is not a new come in horror; he has worked in commercial films such as The Faculty (1998) or Hellions (2015), as well as some peculiar ones such as Lost After Dark (2015) or The Black Waters of Echo’s Pond (2009).

Tone-Deaf was written and directed by Richard Bates Jr., who is very well known in our Festival by relevant titles of his factory such as Excision (2012) or Suburban Gothic (2014). He also made the horror comedy and drama Trash Fire (2016).

Tone-Deaf was initially inspired by Norman Rockwell’s painting, The Connoisseur, which many believe sets out to satirize the artwork of Jackson Pollock”, Richard Bates Jr.

Richard Bates Jr. started out with the short film Excision (2008), which later on would result the inspiration for the feature film. It was awarded in a number of festivals: Austin Fantastic Fest, Boston Underground Film Festival, Honolulu International Festival, or Washington DC Independent Film Festival. In 2012, with the mentioned feature film Excision, he was given the Best Feature Film Award at our Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival.

Tone-Deaf premiered at SXSW Film Festival with a great success that resulted in Saban Films‘ acquisition of the distribution rights in the USA.

Synopsis: After losing her job and imploding her latest dysfunctional relationship, Olive leaves the city for a weekend of peace in the country, only to discover the shockingly dark underbelly of rural America. She rents an eccentric, ornate country house from Harvey, an old-fashioned widower struggling to hide his psychopathic tendencies. Soon two generations collide with terrifying results in this home invasion horror film that is also a darkly comedic critique of the bizarre cultural and political climate that currently exists.
