Terror Classroom

What is it?

Terror Classroom is a cross-cutting project of the TerrorMolins Festival, which offers educational activities for people of all ages, with the goal to promote knowledge about cinematic language and horror cinema.

Activities for everyone:

  • General public: Discover a wide variety of thrilling activities, from screenings, workshops, round tables and more.
  • Students: Activities that are adapted to primary school, high school, and professional training.

In-person and online formats:

  • In-person: Join Join us during the Festival in Molins de Rei for an immersive experience in our Terror Classroom.
  • Online: Enjoy exclusive content on the websites TerrorMolinsTV and TerrorKidsTV, and access them whenever you want.

Program

Activities for primary school (1st to 6th grade) | movie screening: Wallace & Gromit: The curse of the were-rabbit, by Nick Park and Steve Box (UK, 2005)

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH | 10:00 H | La Peni theatre | Duration: 90 min. | recommended age: 7+ | prior registration

Wallace and Gromit, famous because of their inventions, see themselves tangled up in a new problem: a mysterious creature is destroying the towns' gardens, right before the
giant vegetable contest. Following the orders of Lady Tottingon, they must capture this unknown beast to save the contest and their town.

One of the festival's missions is to bring cinema closer to the youngest members of the family, to help them discover
the pleasure of watching quality cinema on the big screen and to realise the richness of
all its details. For this purpose, we offer a screening that is specifically catered towards primary school students.

One of the festival's educators will introduce the film and will give us the basic guidelines to interpret and enjoy it. The teachers will also be given a dossier with activities to do in class.

Goals:

  • Fostering love for cinema as a way to express oneself and be entertained.
  • Developing critical and audiovisual analysis skills.
  • Stimulating children's creativity and imagination.
  • Promoting teamwork and collaborating.

Activities for primary school (1st to 6th grade) | Educational dossier: how to write a frighteningly good haiku

Recommended age: 9-10+ | Duration: one session or more, depending on the depth of the work | you will have to ask for the dossier

The dossier How to write a frighteningly good haiku is an educational activity for Primary School teachers.

This dossier contains a creative and fun activity to work on written expression and imagination in class through the creation of haikus. It will focus on the horror genre, exploring emotions such as fear, surprise and intrigue, adapted to the students' age and sensibilities.

Dare you write a frighteningly good haiku? Of course! If we start writing a haiku, we need to follow these steps: gather vocabulary and feelings that relate to fear, combining them and adapting the words to the metric of haikus. And we will pair it with a drawing!

Goals:

  • Developing creativity and imagination.
  • Experimenting with the structure of haikus.
  • Exploring the language of feelings.
  • Fostering reading and writing.

In this talk, given by teachers from the FX Barcelona Film School, we invite you to delve into the fascinating world of cinema and discover the secrets of the professionals who bring stories to life on the big screen.

This talk is addressed to all students who are curious about the world of cinema and audiovisual arts. It is a unique opportunity to discover a new vocation and develop skills such as creativity, teamwork, and communication.

The dossier How to write a horror short story is an educational activity for high school teachers.

This dossier contains a fun and creative activity to start playing with words and learn how to write short stories. Short stories are a genre that contain an independent, finished full literary text within a hyper short amount of words. It is a way of writing what we feel and want to say differently, a particular way that fits very well with the discovery of writing as a way to express oneself.

Dare you write a horror short story? Of course! We will discover some authors and the basic characteristics of the genre in a clear way, and we will conquer that empty page.

Activities for upper high school (last two years of high school, trade school, competic and cam) | film screening: horror short film screenings for high schools

Monday, November 11th | 10:00 H or 12:00 H (choose one) | La Peni theatre  | Recommended age: 16+ | duration: 90 min. | prior registration

Screening of a selection of the best short stories in competition on the past edition of the festival. The screened short films have been selected taken into account criteria of quality, representativity, and appropriateness for the audience.

One of the festival's educators will introduce the film and will give us the basic guidelines to interpret and enjoy it. This year, the short film screening will also have an educational dossier to work in class.

The session is structured into the following parts:

  • Screening of the following short films (see grid).
  • Conference with a film director. The students will be able to participate in a Q&A with the director of one of the short films they have seen.
  • Vote for the Audience Award (and some surprises!).

Activities for upper high school (last two years of high school, trade school, competic and cam) | horror short stories contest: “high school” special award

New edition of the Horror Short Stories Contest organised by the Horror Film Festival and the El Molí library that focuses on horror stories. The best short stories (1,000 characters max) in Catalonian and Spanish will receive an award.

The goal for this contest is to foster literary creation and the love for horror literature, both contemporary and classic.

The High School Special Award will be announced during the High School Short Film Screening (Monday, November 11th), and the award will include the publication of the short story, a set of Festival merchandising products and a ticket for the TerrorJove Session (Friday 15th November).

Online activity for high school students aged 16-18 (focusing on the classes of Catalonian and Spanish language), trade school, COMPETIC, CAM and similar.

Goals:

  • Fostering literary creativity.
  • Developing the skill to summarise.
  • Promoting reading and the love for literature, especially horror literature.

The activity TerrorMolins in the classroom, created by the pedagogic team of the Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival, is an educational activity for high school teachers.

Its goal is to bring secondary school students closer to the world of horror films, encouraging critical thinking, artistic appreciation and the development of different skills.

A practical and participative session in which we will watch short films presented in the Official Selection of the Festival, with a critical and didactic work afterwards.

In short, ‘TerrorMolins in the classroom’ seeks not only to entertain students, but also to provide them with a valuable educational tool to develop critical thinking, creativity and communication skills, while fostering a taste for film and audiovisual culture.

Goals:

  • Introducing students to film analysis and horror films.
  • Developing critical thinking and debate skills.
  • Fostering audiovisual creativity.

Do you want to participate in the Young Jury Workshop: Learn how to act as a jury of a film festival?

Participate in this free activity on Thursday, November 7th at 17:30 in the El Molí library.

Those who participate in the workshop will have the chance to be members of the Young Jury for TerrorMolins. The workshop will have three parts: a class on viewing and criticising film, going to an official short films screening of the festival and, finally, meeting the rest of the jury to decide the awarded short films.
