The Festival wants to pay tribute to a key figure in Catalan cinema and, by extension, Spanish cinema.
Mar Targarona (Barcelona, 1953) began her career in the theater, but was attracted to the field of cinema and television, where she has reached the highest levels of popularity. She made her first commercials for Rodar y Rodar (a production company she founded in 1990 with her husband Joaquín Padró) and developed an intense work as a film director and producer.
It is still active, and as a producer, it has promoted the beginning of the film career of several young talents such as JA Bayona (with the successful The orphanage), Guillem Morales and Oriol Paulo. In 2007, Mar Targarona and filmmaker Sergi Vizcaíno were members of the jury for TerrorMolins. Later, Rodar y Rodar produced Vizcaino's film, XP3D (2011), a risky bet because it turned out to be the first Spanish horror film shot in 3-D.
Mar Targarona has directed seven feature films, and Molins de Rei within the 42nd edition, will enjoy his latest work: The Cuckoo.
