Dysphoria
The Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival presents its opening and closing films. The 44th edition will begin with Dysphoria, directed by Christopher Cartagena, and will conclude with The Kirlian Frequency, from the Argentine filmmaker Christian Ponce, both in state premiere. The filmmakers, as well as members of their artistic and technical teams, will accompany the audience to the opening and closing sessions.
The Spanish Dysphoria will be screened at the festival after its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Texas. The film tells the story of a young couple who, fleeing the insecurity of the city, move with their young daughter to the family country house with the intention of selling it and continuing their journey to France. The disappearance of the father and the appearance of a mysterious visitor trigger a terrifying spiral of tension, turning the family environment into a nightmare.
For his part, The Kirlian Frequency sets the action in a city that doesn't appear on maps, where a nighttime radio announcer gives voice to stories of ghosts, curses and monstrous creatures. The combination of animation and live-action pays homage to the underground culture of the 1980s, the fanzines and fantastic stories that marked an entire generation. The project was born as an independent web series, later became a phenomenon on Netflix and now arrives at TerrorMolins as a feature film.

For its part, Kinki Chiho no Aru Basho ni Tsuite (About a Place in the Kinki Region) brings back the best of cinema from Japanese horror with disappearances and paranormal phenomena under the direction of Koji Shiraishi, while the’India Bramayugam combines horror folk and a hypnotic black and white to transport the viewer to the heart of darkness and madness.

Of United States arrives The Long Walk (The Long Walk), an adaptation of a Stephen King novel directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games), which portrays a brutal competition in a dystopian future and evokes both the current phenomenon The squid game as classic as Dance, dance, you damned ones!. From Korea, Geomeun sunyeodeul (Dark Nuns) —spin-off from The Priests— mixes nuns, shamans, tarot and possessions in a new Korean-style exorcism. And with Bodycam, the Canadian Brandon Christensen (The Puppetman, TerrorMolins 2023) presents in Spanish premiere an intense found footage about violence and despair.
They complete the selection Man Finds Tape (USA), a hybrid between a documentary about obscure cults and found footage of paranormal phenomena; Night of the Reaper (Canada, Spanish premiere), a tribute to the slasher classics like Halloween o Scream, with VHS and mysteries in a small town; and It Ends (USA), which arrives at TerrorMolins after its world premiere at SXSW, with the directorial debut of’Alex Ullom and the story of a group of young people trapped on an endless path while being besieged by unknown forces.
