The Ghost of the Fifth

In 1819 Goya retired to La Quinta del Sordo to spend his last days away from public life. The painter fell seriously ill, and was visited by ghosts from his past. He painted the Black Paintings on the walls as a last resort to exorcise the ghosts, losing almost everything in the process.
