This edition received 418 micro-stories, from both Catalan and Spanish areas and from abroad. The verdict of the 16th edition of the Horror Microstory Competition has been the following:

Best Microstory in Catalan: The slaughterhouse, by Lluís Planellas Giné (Barcelona).

The guard pulls my bridle to let me into the room. I obey like a beggar so he doesn't get angry (he has a long hand). I quickly regret it. This looks like a chamber of horrors. There are blood stains on the walls and a disgusting puddle of who knows what is dripping down the sink. A woman and a boy dressed in white are checking an arsenal of torture instruments arranged along a metal table. This must be a mistake, I tell myself. I've been good. I haven't even complained about the food. I even gave them my son. Why should they punish me? "Prepare the electrodes," the woman says to the boy. "First, you stun her; then you slit her throat, gut her, and flay her. Understand?" "Understand. What?! Mercy! I'll tell you everything I know!" Do you want names? I'll say names! But please don't kill me! I'm innocent! I swear! —What a talkative sheep — the boy says, stroking the back of my neck. —Stop talking nonsense and stun her. She's nothing but an animal. Monsters! Murderers! Sons of…! BOOM!

*Special mention Best Microstory in Catalan: Family Christmas, by Jordi Places Rabal (Molins de Rei).

Family, what a great time we had this Christmas! It was definitely unforgettable and I hope the next one is just as good or even better! She took her husband's head and her son's head and put them back in her freezer until next year.

Best Microstory in Spanish: Eternity, by Almudena Gutiérrez Gómez (Cartagena).

I had a horrible nightmare last night. I dreamed that I was locked in a very small place, where there was no light. I screamed and screamed, but no one heard me. I woke up with a start, and hit my head with the lid of the coffin.

*Special mention Best Microstory in Spanish: The cup, by Alejandro Gomis Arnal (Bétera, Valencia).

When I got halfway through the glass, I realized that the bartender wasn't serving me wine.

Special “Instituts” Award for Best Microstory (for students of educational centers): The psychiatrist, by Lucas Santos Vizuete (Molins de Rei).

-I hate this psychiatric hospital, I've been here rotting and wasting away for years, I detest the doctors and nurses, with their hypocritical smiles and their poorly disguised flirtations, I want to stain the walls of this place with their blood! I'll desert them, one of these days, one of these days I will!- -Doctor... what you're saying is very sinister- the patient replied.
