Jury Official Feature Film Section

The jury of the Official Feature Film Section will be made up of: Rocío Ales, writer and teacher; Julia Lara, actress; and Caye Houses, director of the great winner of TerrorMolins 2023, The dining room table.

ROCIO ALÉS

Rocío Alés Fernández (Málaga, 1984) holds a PhD in Art History from the University of Málaga. She combines her work as a History professor with research on the iconography of horror films, tattoos and photography, on which she has published several articles in both specialized university journals and collective publications. In her latest essay, “Deep America: Rural North American Horror Film” (2024), she analyses the dark side of North American culture through the stereotype of ’Deep America”, materialised in rural horror films from the 1970s. Within the framework of the University of Málaga, she has organised three editions of the ”Encuentros sobre el terror, la ciencia ficción y lo fantástico“ (2017/18/19), a conference designed to dignify the study of these genres. In addition, under the pseudonym MissTerror, she carries out outreach work on social networks on issues related to the horror genre.

JULIA LARA

Actress from Molinella, graduated in dramatic art from the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona. She expanded her training with courses in acting in front of the camera in Madrid and also dubbing courses. As a curious fact, from the time she came of age -parallel to her training- she worked for seven years playing Regan, the exorcist's daughter, at the Hotel Krüeger in the Tibidabo Amusement Park. She can currently be seen in the film "42 seconds" (Prime Video and RTVE Play), a film that tells the story of the Spanish water polo team at the 1992 Olympic Games, in which she plays an Olympic swimmer. In the series "Cristo y Rey" (Netflix) she plays the first partner of Ángel Cristo, a German trapeze artist; and in the series "L'última nit del Karaoke" (Prime Video and 3Cat) she plays the character of Diana. She is also a dubbing actress and announcer. He has dubbed for series and films on Netflix, Prime Video, Universal Studios or HBO Max; and has provided voice for commercials and audiobooks. He has recently participated in the filming of a series between Madrid and Valladolid -of which he cannot give any details yet- which will have a premiere date in the fall of 2025.

CAYE HOUSES

Caye Casas is a film director and screenwriter with a successful career in the horror and fantasy genre. He has directed the short films “Nada SA” and “RIP”, which have won more than 200 awards and have been selected for more than 500 international festivals. This success allowed him to make his first feature film, “Matar a Dios”, which premiered at the Sitges Festival and won the grand prize from the audience, in addition to other recognitions such as the Méliès de Plata Award for best European fantasy and horror film. “Matar a Dios” became the most awarded black comedy of the year. In 2023, he released his second feature film, “La mesita del comedor”, a cruel tragedy that has won more than 50 awards at renowned festivals such as the BIFF in Brussels, Fantaspoa and the San Sebastian Horror Festival. This film has been considered one of the best in the genre by specialized media such as Variety and Letterboxd, and has been nominated for Best International Film by Fangoria magazine. Apart from that, Caye Casa invited a certain Stephen King (little scoundrel) to paella to thank the King of Horror for publicly recommending it to his legion of fans.


Jury Bloody Madness and Being Different

The jury for the Being Different and Bloody Madness sections is made up of Enrique Galceran, Cristina Borobia i Victor Catalan.

ENRIQUE GARCELAN

When he was 22 years old, Enrique discovered that his passion for cinema went beyond simple entertainment and decided to abandon his medical career and study cinematographic arts. After creating several scripts for short films and writing a couple of novels, he spent a few years doing communication studies for various companies, including some film festivals and distributors. With the knowledge acquired in both fields (film and communication), in December 2003 he decided to start CineAsia, a company that aims to promote Asian cinema. Its services range from the organization and programming of festivals (Sitges Festival, Fancine, Granada-Cines del Sur Festival, Korean Film Festival…) and Asian film cycles, to the organization of courses and conferences for various universities and institutions (UAB, UMA, Casa Asia, Escuela de cine de San Antonio de los Baños). In addition, CineAsia has been responsible for publishing 'CineAsia' for more than 5 years, the first and only magazine published in Spain specializing in this type of cinema.

CRISTINA BOROBIA

With a solid background in Graphic Design, Cristina Borobia has developed a prolific career in the audiovisual world, standing out as an Art Director in film, television and advertising. Her talent and versatility have led her to collaborate on large-scale projects, leaving an indelible mark on each one. She has been the creative mind behind the visual aesthetics of renowned films such as “Matar a Dios”, “7 Raons per a Fugir de la Sociedad” and “La Mesita del Comedor”. Her works have been critically acclaimed and have won numerous international awards, including the Audience Award at the Sitges Festival. As art director of the short films “Nada SA” and “RIP”, she has demonstrated her ability to create visually striking worlds, achieving more than 150 awards and selections at international festivals. His experience extends to television, where he has worked on documentary series such as “El Fiscal, la Presidenta i l'Espi” for Netflix, as well as children's programs such as “Los Lunnis”. In addition, he has directed the art of music videos for artists such as Doctor Prats and Dani Rosado. His talent has also extended to the world of advertising, where he has worked on several projects for recognized brands.

VICTOR CATALAN

Director of photography based in Barcelona and Madrid. He studied audiovisuals and television at the EMAV from 2007 to 2009. He then studied the Degree in Cinematography at the ESCAC, where he graduated in 2013 as a director of photography. In fiction, he has directed the photography of feature films such as “Los visitados” (filmed in Mexico) and “Performing Kaoru's funeral” (filmed in Japan), and of the multi-award-winning short films “A little taste”, “Humormàtic”, “L'encenedor quàntic”, “We are brutal” and “Sagnant”; the television program “Les cares dels Gaudí” and the documentaries “Nike: the architects of new football”, “El camí ignasià”, “Mala leche”, “Tabuk” and “Cuentos de la rabassada”. As a director he has also directed the short films “La masia”, “A little taste”, “We are brutal”, “Matapasiones” and “Sympathy for killers”, winning awards such as “Premio Fugaz 2020” or “Best short in Terror-Molins 2022”. “La masia” can be seen on 3CAT and the short film “A little taste” is part of the international horror feature film “The 100 candles game”. In terms of music videos he has worked with artists such as Sigrid, Bruce Springsteen, Loquillo, Doctor Prats, Els Catarres, Mama dousha or Super gegant among others. He has recently worked as a camera operator in the 3CAT – Brutal Media series “Vintage” and is producing the Movistar+ program “El Consultorio de Berto” by El Terrat – Mediapro


Jury Official Short Film Section

The Jury of the Official Short Film Section is made up of: Heidi Honeycutt, Max Gee i Julia Cranney.

HEIDI HONEYCUTT

Heidi Honeycutt is an American journalist, author, actress, distributor, filmmaker, film programmer, and co-founder of the Los Angeles-based Etheria Film Night, the world’s most prestigious genre film festival for women directors. As a journalist, Honeycutt has written for magazines such as Fangoria, Famous Monsters of Filmland, and Comingsoon.net. She holds a master’s degree in Mass Communications and has appeared in numerous feminist horror films and documentaries. This year, she released her latest book, “I Spit on Your Celluloid: The History of Women Directing Horror Movies.”.

MAX GEE

Max Gee is an international screenwriter and playwright, author of science fiction and horror in film, theatre and prose. Her short films Terminal (2018) and Standing Woman (2020) have received several awards and have been selected for multiple film festivals. Her adaptation of Sherlock Holmes and the Speckled Band was screened in historic locations such as The Treasurer's House, York, Ripley Castle, North Yorkshire, and Sydney, Australia. Max directs the Academic in Screenwriting at Bournemouth University and holds a PhD in Screenwriting from the University of York. She is currently involved in the AHRC research project BRAID, Shared Post-Human Imagination: Human-AI Collaboration in Media Creation. She has published on “posthuman noir” in Cinema: Journal of Film and Philosophy; a web series in the Palgrave Handbook of Script Development; Folk Horror, genre and Japanese survival horror for the Journal for Cultural Research, and a script as practical research, Golems Inc. in Sightlines: Filmmaking in the Academy.

JULIA CRANNEY

Julia is a renowned screenwriter, actress and filmmaker from Liverpool who often collaborates with Helen Simmons. Her debut co-directing the short film “Measure”, which has been screened at major festivals such as BIFA, BAFTA and others, won the Méliès d'Argent award for best European short film at TerrorMolins 2023. In addition, her film work includes three feature films with the production company Reel One, a multi-award-nominated episode of “East Enders” and an animated adaptation of “A Midsummer Night's Dream” for BBC Teach; she also has multiple projects in the pipeline with independent producers in the UK. She is also a playwright, known for her work for the Liverpool Everyman theatre.

DIEGO COLLADO

Diego Collado is a twenty-four year old director and writer from Barcelona, currently living and working in London, UK. After his experience working as an assistant editor and film editor in Spain, he studied Classics at University College London. There, he was a member and president of the UCL Film Society, receiving the “Outstanding Contribution Award” from the UCL Students’ Union. He co-founded the young filmmakers’ collective Campdale Motion with members of the Film Society, with whom he has produced, written and directed multiple projects. Professionally, he has worked at the European branch of the Japanese public broadcaster in London and is currently working at the BBC.

ALBERTO ROMO

Catalan born in Barcelona and resident in Bogotá (Colombia). Animator, designer and, above all, a reconsecrated cinephile, passionate about the fantasy genre. He has written for publications such as “Judex Fanzine”, “Almas Oscuras” or his own blog. He is currently an editor at the publishing house specializing in fantasy cinema Ediciones Sociedad Fantasmagoría, where he has been coordinator and writer of several books; he coordinates the Muestra Fantasmagoría Bogotá and is curator of Colombian and Ibero-American cinema at the Fantasmagoría Horror and Fantasy Film Festival in Medellín.

SABINA PUJOL

Her passion for image and language led her to study film at the Escola de Guionistes de Barcelona and Micro Obert; she later graduated in English Philology and did a Master's in Audiovisual Translation at the UAB. She currently works for different festivals and VOD platforms as an audiovisual translator (subtitling). In addition to her work in audiovisual translation, for a few years she has been part of the programming team of the B-Retina Festival in Cornellà de Llobregat and also of the Cryptshow and Filmets festivals, a job that makes her very happy. And as she says, "You see, as a total cinephile, let me know to participate in any project related to cinema and I will come flying, if it can be genre, the better".


Golden Critics Award

The Jury of Criticism is made up of Carlos Penela, Ylenia Cañadas i Jordi Gonzalez.

CARLOS PENELA

A lawyer by profession and a cinephile at heart, Carlos is the director of the blog “Batecs pel Cinema”. A lover of the seventh art, he enjoys reviewing films, but where he is most at his best is interviewing actors, actresses, directors and anyone who has to do with a film or series. A regular at festivals such as BCN Film Fest or the Sitges Festival, you can also hear him on different radio stations as a collaborator. He also collaborates with the Kinépolis channel in the organisation and development of film forums on great films.

Ylenia Cañadas

Molecular biologist by profession and cinephile by nature. She has been a member of the Critics' Jury, Méliès d'Or and Young Jury at the Sitges Festival, and a member of the critics' jury at the Americana Film Fest, BCN Film Fest, TerrorMolins, Alternativa Film Fest, Sant Cugat Fantàstic, TaShort Fest and Sabadell Film Festival, among others. She has been press officer and programmer for Fantboi and also for the Craft Film Fest. She is currently working on a cinephile project focused on Nordic culture. She is also the director of the "Mutacions Cinèfils" section of "El Cinèfil", is a member of ACCEC, also of the Dones Visuals collective and works in a cinema in Barcelona.

JORDI GONZÀLEZ

Director and presenter of the radio program “Cinema en Sèrie” on Ona de Sants, content creator on the YouTube channel BakeroJordi, and singer and composer in the rock group Puerta 104. He has worked for more than twenty-two years in television as a technician and his two great passions are music and cinema of all kinds, but if it's horror, even better. A regular at genre film festivals, he swears and perjures that TerrorMolins is his favorite.


Jury 20 Seconds of Terror Contest

The Jury of the 20 Seconds of Terror Contest is made up of Berta Sanchez, Miriam Quesada, i Joan Clusella.

BERTA SANCHEZ

Graduated in Audiovisual Communication from the UAB with a mention in audiovisual creation and film analysis, she has shot more than thirty projects in different roles, but specializing in production and direction. She is currently an event producer. Short films in which she has been a producer have won several festivals such as Skyline or Vaughan Film Fest, and recently, one of them has been nominated for the Goya. In the program “La Cinemoteka”, on the free radio “RSK”, she talks about African cinema in its section, “Donker Flieks”. However, her roots and passion are the production of independent and genre projects – she continues to be a horror and fantasy freak, as demonstrated by her career of more than three years as part of the organization of the Sabadell Horror Film Festival, Fantboi and B-Retina - members of the TAC. There she participates in different roles, such as Production, Screenings and Audiovisuals or Industry..Cine de Terror and Fantàstic Fantasmagòria de Medellín.

MIRIAM QUESADA

Screenwriter and director. Specialized in screenwriting after completing the Master's degree "Showrunner: aula de ficció" at ESCAC and Mediaset España. Currently, she is in the pre-production of her first horror short film selected in the "Acció Curts" advisory, training and pitching program of Dones Visuals, an entity in which she is part of the "Dones, Terror i Fantàstic" group promoting new genre creators. At the same time, she works on the development of several feature films selected in script laboratories such as Dama Ayuda, the Iberoamerican laboratory Fantasolab or Generamma.

JOAN CLUSELLA

Television director with a long career in the audiovisual sector and a great lover of cinema, especially the fantasy and horror genre. Currently, he works at Televisió de Badalona, where I have had the opportunity to develop and collaborate on several projects over the last twenty years. During the first years of the Filmets Badalona Film Festival, I was part of the organizing committee and the selection jury, a very enriching experience. In addition, I am a member of The Crypts Productions, an entity dedicated to promoting cultural activities related to fantasy cinema. Together with them, we organize the Cryptshow Festival in Badalona, an event that wants to defend everything that surrounds terror and fantasy in any of its artistic expressions, be it cinema, music, painting... Something that I am passionate about! Regarding my most recent works, I have co-directed two documentaries that have particularly marked me: “Èpica. El llegat de La Fura dels Baus” (2020), which explores the activities of La Fura dels Baus through its Èpica foundation, and “El silenci de les ones” (2023), a documentary about the repression suffered by journalist Pere Mitjans at the end of the Civil War, where we seek to reclaim historical memory.


Horror Micro Stories Competition Jury

JORDI MASÓ

Jordi Masó (Granollers, 1967) is a pianist and writer. He has performed in Europe, Asia and America. He works as a piano teacher at the ESMUC and the Granollers Conservatory. He has recorded more than sixty albums —mostly for the Naxos record label— and is the author of the collections of short stories “Els reptes de Vladimir” (Temenos, 2010), “Catàleg de monstres” (Marcolic-Alpina, 2012), “Les mil i una” (Temenos, 2015) and “Ambrosia” (Males Herbes, 2020), the short story volumes “Polpa” (Males Herbes, 2016), “La biblioteca fantasma” (Males Herbes, 2018) and “Les males herbes” (Males Herbes, 2022) and the novels “L'hivern a Corfú” (Males Herbes, 2019) and “Xacona” (Males Herbes, 2023), winner of the 2024 Llibreter Award. Many of his texts have been awarded in literary competitions. He has been the winner of the TerrorMolins Horror Microstory Competition in several editions.
