TerrorMolins launches collaborations with the 3Cat platform and the Catalan Film Academy.
04/11/2024 | With less than a week to go until the start of TerrorMolins 2024, the festival presents all the details of the 43rd edition. In the end, it was not possible to hold a press conference due to the warning of danger due to violent weather in the Baix Llobregat, after the event was postponed for the three days of official mourning called by the City Council in the case of the victims of the DANA.
The first of the new features announced is the festival spot, directed by Paco Ruiz. The work of the filmmaker from Molinella pays homage The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the greatest exponent of rural terror, but as anticipated by the poster for this edition, designed by himself, he subverts its roles and gives it an updated reading without betraying its spirit.
The Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival will take place between November 8 and 17 and, as in previous years, will offer most of its programming in person at the Teatre de La Peni and a small part online through the Filmin platform. In total, there are 114 movies —42 feature films and 72 short films— from 33 nationalities, among which there are 4 world premieres, 5 international or European premieres, 30 premieres in Spain and 5 Catalan premieres. All of them divided into six competitive sections —Official Section, Being Different, Bloody Madness, Ç-Trencada, Globus and TerrorKids— and two out of competition.
Among the new features announced, the Honorary Award this year, which falls on Montse Ribé, special effects artist. Ribé has an extensive professional career working with filmmakers such as Pedro Almodóvar and José Antonio Bayona and won an Oscar for The Pan's Labyrinth together with David Martí. Among his works, other iconic works of genre cinema also stand out, such as The community, [REC]4: Apocalypse, The scarlet summit o A monster comes to see me..
Talents at TerrorMolins 2024. In addition to Montse Ribé, other personalities will attend the festival to present their films. Among the talents of the feature films will be present Abel Danan, director of the inaugural film The Damned; Lawrence Jacomelli, director of Blood Star; Anneke Sluiters, protagonist of Heresy (Witte Wieven); John Farrelly, director of’The Ghost, the first horror film shot in Irish Gaelic in history; and the team of’The instinct, the big winner of the Abycine festival, headed by the director Juan Albarracin. These and other talents from the seventy short films programmed will be joined by the juries of the different sections. The jury of the Official Feature Film Section will be made up of Rocío Ales, writer and teacher; Julia Lara, actress; and Caye Houses, director of the great winner of TerrorMolins 2023, The dining room table. The jury for the Being Different and Bloody Madness sections is made up of Enrique Garcelán, Cristina Borobia and Víctor Català; the Official Short Film Section is made up of Heidi Honeycutt, Max Gee and Julia Cranney; the Ç-Trencada section is made up of Diego Collado, Alberto Romo and Sabina Pujol; and the Critics' Jury is made up of Carlos Penela, Ylenia Cañadas and Jordi González.
Exhibition and literary presentations, among the parallel activities. It's not all screenings at TerrorMolins. Among the activities that are also part of the festival is the exhibition “Terror a Quatre Rodes” by Joso. From November 7th, the Ca n'Ametller Exhibition Hall will host an exhibition of designs to decorate the body of the official festival car, only one of which has been chosen by Renault and printed in vinyl format. Several new editorials will also be presented with terror as a backdrop. They are The curse of the full moon, with Alberto Romo and Raul Ruiz; Deep America, with Rocío Alés; and Horror film told to children, with Manuel Mañero. To all this are added activities such as the Molins Horror Games, already held, and various talks, in addition to professional conferences that will host, among others, the IV Ibero-American Co-production Forum.
New collaborations. TerrorMolins is part of alliances of genre festivals such as TAC (Terror Arreu de Catalunya) or Noviembre Fantasma and is always looking for new ways of collaboration. Two of them are with 3Cat, through the children's channel SX3, which offers children the possibility of attending the TerrorKids sessions; and with the 3Cat platform itself, where from November 30th TerrorMolins has its own collection open with films in Catalan that have been through the festival. They are the long Hail Mary and the shorts Agoraphobia, At Christmas, it's wood., Someone's houses, The farmhouse, Tongue with capers, A bed full of blood i Zombiosis. Another collaboration is with the’Catalan Film Academy, which every year carries out an Action for the Recovery of Cinematic Heritage. This year the action is entitled “Horror cinema: a geography of the genre in Catalonia”, a selection of 8 iconic titles of the genre in Catalonia, curated by the researcher and programmer Jordi Sánchez Navarro, whose presentation will be hosted by TerrorMolins. In addition, one of the selected films will be screened, Who can kill a child?, by Chicho Ibáñez Serrador, and there will be a round table discussion with director Jaume Balagueró, critic Desirée de Fez and Jordi Sánchez Navarro himself.
