Beyond the usual tradition of paying tribute to specific films or themes, the 40th edition of the Festival asked us for something that went beyond these concepts: we wanted to pay tribute to cinema and horror in its entirety. On the other hand, the 40 in Roman numerals, represented as an XL “size”, asked us for something that was more than a simple spot, and we wanted it to somehow also reflect and pay tribute to the trajectory and identity of the Festival.
“I snatch” (Iván Zulueta, 1979) turned out to be the ideal link for all these ideas: it is a film about cinema, but it has nothing to do with what one might expect from this simple definition. Through a sick and disturbing atmosphere, it presents cinema as a drug that vampirizes you and traps you in a spiral of addiction: exactly everything we were looking for for the advertisement.
We hope to have managed to transmit this love for horror, this addiction to cinema, this homage to what the Molins festival is and has been in recent years and this disturbing atmosphere. We wanted to directly challenge the viewer and create a piece that invites to be seen and analyzed in detail more than once… [exactly like what happens with “I snatch”.]
