Tribute to Mar Targarona

The Festival wants to pay a special tribute to this leading figure in Catalan and Spanish cinema.

Mar Targarona (Barcelona, 1953) started her career on theatre stages, but she was soon attracted by films and television, where she has become a central element. Initially, she made adverts for Rodar y Rodar (the production company that she started out in 1990 in association with her husband Joaquín Padró), since then she has led an intensive activity as director and producer.

She is still an active producer and she has given space to emerging talents such as J. A. Bayona (with the successful El orfanato), Guillem Morales and Oriol Paulo. In 2007, Mart Targarona and filmmaker Sergi Vizcaíno met each other as jury members of TerrorMolins. After that, Rodar y Rodar produced Vizcaíno’s film, XP3D (2011), which was a daring bet because it was the first Spanish film shot in 3-d.

Mar Targarona has directed seven feature films, and Molins de Rei will be honoured to screen her latest work: El Cuco.
